FAQ
Concrete patio questions. Straight answers.
The questions Kyle, Buda and San Marcos homeowners ask most, about cost, cracking, tear-outs, finishes and timing.
General
Before you call. The basics.
How much does a concrete patio cost in Kyle?
It depends on size, tear-out, base depth and finish. A broom-finish patio and a stamped, stained patio are different projects. After the on-site assessment you get a realistic range in writing, before anything is formed.
Can you pour over my old patio?
Sometimes, but usually not. If the old slab is cracked, sinking or pitched toward the house, pouring over it carries those problems into the new one. Most Kyle-area builder patios get torn out so we can fix the base and the slope.
Will my new patio crack?
All concrete can crack. The goal is to control where. A compacted base, reinforcement, and control joints cut at the right spacing mean any cracking follows the joint lines instead of running across the slab.
Why does water pool by my back door?
Usually the patio is flat or tilted toward the house, or the ground around it settled. A rebuilt patio is pitched away from the foundation so rain leaves the door and moves to the yard.
How soon can we use the new patio?
Light foot traffic comes first, furniture a little later, and full strength takes several weeks. Your crew lead gives you exact days for your pour and the weather that week.
Do I need HOA approval?
Many neighborhoods in Kyle, Buda and San Marcos have guidelines for backyard work. We provide a drawn layout and finish details you can submit.
Who actually does the work?
Concrete Patio Kyle is a local referral site. Projects are currently completed by Texas Urban Elements, a design-build contractor that assesses drainage on every job.
What areas do you serve?
Kyle, Buda and San Marcos, including Plum Creek, Hometown Kyle, 6 Creeks, Crosswinds, Sunfield, Garlic Creek, Whispering Hollow, Stonefield, Blanco Vista, Kissing Tree and Cottonwood Creek.
What happens at the assessment?
We walk the yard with you, look at slope, soil and where water goes after rain, mark out the patio size, and talk through finishes. Then you get a layout and a price range in writing.
What is the difference between stamped concrete and pavers?
Stamped concrete is one continuous slab with a pattern pressed in, so there are fewer joints to weed. Pavers are individual units that can be lifted and reset. Both can work well; we can compare them for your yard.
Do you pour in summer?
Yes. In hot weather we pour early in the morning and keep the slab damp while it cures, because hot, dry wind pulls water out of fresh concrete too fast.
Do you also do driveways and walkways?
Yes. Patios are our focus, and we also pour driveways, walkways, pool decks and concrete repairs.
Is there a warranty?
Yes. Warranty terms are explained in writing with your project range, and reviewed again at the final walkthrough.
How do I get started?
Call or text us, or send the assessment form. We reply to set up a time to walk the yard.
By service
Service questions. Patios, finishes and more.
How big should my patio be?
Plan for the furniture plus room to walk around it. A dining table with six chairs needs a lot more space than most builder patios give you. During the assessment we mark it out on the ground so you can see it before we pour.
Do you add drainage with the patio?
Every patio is pitched away from the house. If the yard already holds water, we can add a drain or reshape the grade as part of the project so the new patio does not push water somewhere worse.
Can you just pour over my old patio?
Sometimes, but usually not. If the old slab is cracked, sinking or pitched toward the house, a new layer on top carries those problems with it and raises the patio height at your door. We will tell you honestly at the assessment if an overlay can work.
Can I make the patio bigger during the rebuild?
Yes, and it is the best time to do it. The base and forms are being built new anyway, so adding size costs less than adding it later.
Is stamped concrete slippery?
Sealed concrete can be slicker than broom finish. We can add an anti-slip additive to the sealer, which we recommend around pools and on steps.
Does stamped concrete need resealing?
Yes. Resealing every few years keeps the color rich and protects the surface. We will tell you what to expect for your finish.
Can you replace a deck around an existing pool?
Yes. We protect the pool and coping, remove the old deck, and pour a new one with proper slope and an expansion joint at the coping.
Will the deck be slippery when wet?
Brushed and exposed aggregate finishes have good grip. On stamped decks we add an anti-slip additive to the sealer.
How soon can I drive on a new driveway?
Vehicles stay off until the concrete has gained enough strength. Your crew lead gives you the exact day for your pour.
Will the repair match my existing concrete?
New concrete is always a little different in color at first. We match texture and finish as closely as we can and tell you what to expect.
Can the walkway match my new patio?
Yes. Pouring them together gives the best color and finish match.
